  • The Might of Lampsite

I can see it now. You’re on the toilet, and may be for a while. You’ve read the newspaper; your books next to the bed and a dash to the other room is out of the question. What to do?

  • Interview Preparation Advice

It’s often difficult to present a profile to a hiring manager, secure an interview for a candidate, to only then watch them trip up at the finishing line due to something minor. • If a Lion could speak, we could not understand him

Wittgenstein’s well-known statement makes a great subject for debate and further analysis. It is one of the most perplexing and intriguing of sentences. Students, professors and philosophers often use this quote for their studies and work. However how does it apply to the world of business?

  • Word of Mouth in Telecommunications

Whether you approach the market as a contractor or a permanent employee, you have either worked or know someone that has worked with the big boy companies, such as Nokia, Huawei, Ericsson etc. I’m referring to the dominant forces in the telecommunications market, those of which support global projects. Some employees enjoy the working culture of the larger organizations, whilst others might have a different opinion on the matter. However, it is difficult to disagree with the vast amount of opportunities available to any worker with these global companies, and to count yourself out of these opportunities because of past experiences or from word of mouth, will only work to hinder earning potential and experience.

  • Recruitment and the Art of Reading People

When confronted with the question “What exactly is your profession about? “, every recruiter will give you more or less the same answer: Recruitment means communicating with people. How do you keep it fresh and personal? Most recruiters need to follow a fixed procedure of qualifying and submitting suitable candidates. Once you have left the same voice mail message for ten different people in a row, your actions begin to feel increasingly automatic. Yet every candidate needs to be equally committed. Every candidate has a unique combination of thoughts, feelings and actions. What are the options available?

  • Has LinkedIn changed the face of Recruitment?

Having worked in Recruitment at RIZE Worldwide for over 4 years, I have certainly seen huge changes in how I perform my role on a day to day basis. Perhaps the most significant change is the increasing use of social media. Whilst this has helped RIZE to appeal to a broader candidate and client audience, has it de-personalised the recruitment process? Have we lost that personal touch that used to be so important?

  • The Dangers of Contracting

Danger! Danger! Increased earnings potential!! Speak to any seasoned contractor and they will tell you that you just can’t earn the same money once you take the forbidden leap into full time employment. ‘’If you include the medical insurance, annual leave, pension scheme it’s an incredibly attractive offer…’’ – the HR manager cries – it is still likely to leave you somewhere short, if the net salary hitting your account each month is what gets your pulse racing. The contracting world, if you dare to dig a little deeper, has begun to offer a little more than money for the soul.
